This project, Walking District Six, will be a virtual tour of District Six before and after its destruction that will be created using ArcGIS StoryMaps. It will include points of interest that reflect the language, religion, and the human and economic diversity that existed in the District before its eventual destruction as a result of Apartheid. The descriptions of the interest points will include information that may be found elsewhere in the museum but exemplified by first-hand accounts of what life was like in the District. This project will address a need from visitors who are not physically or fiscally able to visit the museum. This project is significant in two ways. First, it can be used as promotional material to highlight the significance of the museum and give virtual visitors a glimpse into the landscape. Second, it can be used by educators across the world to educate students about the ramifications of South Africa’s policy of Apartheid. <
