Accessibility has always been important. But with the current pandemic, it's beyond important, it's vital. Therefore, this project will allow visitors to virtually walk and travel through the streets of District Six Neighborhood with its original 1966, before the destruction and gentrification had happened, and current view. This virtual experience allows visitors to hear and sense the stories from the protagonists, the historically dispossessed residents of District Six. With this unique experience, the visitors from different spheres can involve how policies of Apartheid and structured violence of the state severely impacted the mundane lives of people. The virtual walking tour will also deepen the collective memory work by supporting and facilitating the reconstruction of the landscape/space and connect with the community in both material and intangible ways:Users can move throughout the tour in two ways; scrolling through the written portion of the map (shift the map automatically as they move to a new section) or they can move around the map, clicking on interest points in any order they choose. It will be built using Esri ArcGIS StoryMap technology. It will be located on its own tab on the main District Six Website.
